What it returns

An AI Overview is an answer, not a rank. It names some brands and cites some pages, and most of the pages it cites are not the ones ranking on the same page: in our October capture, 71% of citations pointed outside the organic top 10. So the record that matters is the overview itself: whether it appeared for the keyword, its full text, and every source it cited, captured as the searcher sees it in the location and on the device you choose.
- Sources in the first response. The overview text and its cited sources arrive together, so a pipeline never has to make a second request before the sources expire.
- AI Mode on the same key. Google AI Mode answers the same question as a conversation with its own sources. Both are captured, and each record is tagged with the surface it came from.
- Available today. Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode are two of the eight engines on the live task API. Submit prompts and get every answer back with its citations, at $0.08 per answer.
