What is a rank tracking API?

An API that checks where a domain ranks on a search engine for a list of keywords, for a chosen location and device, and returns the positions and ranking URLs as structured data so they can be shown in a product or a report.

Which search engines does the rank tracking API cover?

Google. Each row also lists the SERP features on the results page and whether the AI Overview cited the domain. The same keywords can be run as prompts across eight AI engines through the task API.

Can I check rankings by location or device?

Yes. Each check takes a location code (United States by default), a language code, and desktop or mobile.

How often are positions checked?

On demand: each request is one check of up to 1,000 keywords, and it usually completes in about five minutes. Run it on your own schedule, daily or weekly, to build a history.

Does the API return SERP features and AI Overviews?

Yes. Each row lists the features that appeared, whether an AI Overview was present, whether it cited the domain, and the cited URLs.

What it returns

Position, URL, features and the AI Overview, per keyword.

Every keyword in a check returns the domain's best organic position on Google (and its absolute position on the page), the ranking URL and title, the SERP features present, and whether an AI Overview appeared and cited the domain, with the cited URLs. Subdomains count: blog.acme.com ranks for acme.com.

Location, language and device. A location code (United States by default), a language code, and desktop or mobile, set per check.
Depth 10 or 100. Depth 10 reads the first page of results for one check. Depth 100 reads ten pages and counts as ten checks.
Charged for what was measured. The price is held at submission and settled to the keywords whose results page was read. Keywords Google returned no page for, or that failed upstream, are free.

Rank checks are asynchronous, like tasks: submit the keywords, poll the check until it completes, then read one row per keyword. Results are kept for 30 days.
