    One Google US desktop AI Mode query per keyword, captured on 2026-10-10, compared with the AI Overview for the same keyword captured on 2026-10-02. AI Mode answered 100.0% of the 1,821 queries, and 5.9% of its answers listed no source at all. On the 1,592 keywords where both answered, AI Mode cited 5.1 sources on average against 7.8 for the AI Overview, the two led with the same domain on 26% of them, and on 27% they shared no domain at all. Being cited in one surface is not a proxy for the other.

    How the data is captured

    Each keyword is one fresh Google AI Mode query from the United States, desktop, in English, with no conversation before it. We record whether AI Mode answered, every source it cited in the order Google listed them, and the brands its text links to.     An AI Mode tracker records, for a set of queries, what Google AI Mode answers and which pages it cites as sources, in order. This free version covers a fixed library of commercial keywords captured monthly in the United States. A full tracker runs your own keywords on a schedule, so you can see when your brand wins or loses a citation.

    How do I check if my site is cited in Google AI Mode?

    Search a keyword above, then enter your domain under "Is your domain cited?". The check runs in your browser against the captured sources, matches subdomains (blog.example.com counts as example.com), and also tells you whether the AI Overview for the same keyword cites you. For keywords outside the library, the free trial tracks your own list every day.

    Does Google AI Mode cite the same sources as AI Overviews?

    Mostly not. In the October 2026 capture, on the 1,592 keywords where both answered, the AI Overview also cited 38% of the domains AI Mode cited, on average. The two led with the same source on 26% of keywords and shared no source at all on 27%. Being cited in one says little about the other, so they need tracking separately.
