    The dataset, July 2026

Claude and Perplexity put the same brand first in 19 of 41 categories

We asked each engine the same 41 buyer questions, from CRM to schema markup. An answer named 5.5 brands on average, yet only 36% of the brands in a category were named by both engines. Where both named a brand, its position differed by 1.0 places on average. Rank in one engine says little about rank in another, which is why an AI rank has to be tracked per engine.

    How the ranks are measured

Each category is one buyer question, asked of Claude and Perplexity. We record every brand the answer recommends, in the order it names them. The consensus rank puts brands named by more engines first, then sorts by average position. Product lines fold into their parent brand when the parent is also named, so an engine naming a product and another naming the company count as agreement. Nothing runs when you use this page, which is why it is free and instant. The method is set out in full on the measurement methodology page.

The limit is the one every single capture has: AI answers are generated fresh each time, so a position can move on the next run. One measured answer shows the shape of a category, not a stable rank. Honeyb tracks your own buyer questions every day across eight engines, repeats each prompt so the rank is a distribution rather than a coin toss, and then works on the sources that decide whether you are named. For a quick read on your own domain, run the free AI visibility checker; for how paid trackers compare, see the best AI rank trackers.

Building your own reporting? The AI visibility API returns each AI answer classified by whether your brand was named, in what position and with which cited sources.

    Frequently asked questions

What is an AI rank tracker?

An AI rank tracker records which brands AI assistants name when a buyer asks for a recommendation, and in what position. This free version shows the leaderboard for a fixed set of buyer questions we measure. A full tracker runs the questions your own buyers ask, every day, across the engines they use.

How do I check my brand's rank in ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Perplexity?

Pick the category closest to yours, then type your brand under "Find my brand". The check runs in your browser against the captured answers and shows your position per engine, or "not ranked". This dataset covers Claude and Perplexity. To rank your brand on your own prompts across all eight engines Honeyb tracks, start the free trial.

Do AI engines agree on which brand is best?

Less than you would expect. Across 41 categories, Claude and Perplexity put the same brand first in 19 (46%). Only 36% of the brands named in a category were named by both engines, and in 3 categories they named no brand in common. A rank from one engine is not a rank in AI search.

How many brands does an AI answer recommend?

5.5 on average in this dataset, and 8.1 distinct brands per category once both engines are combined. A brand outside the first handful is not in the answer at all. The brands named in the most categories were Semrush (17) and Ahrefs (13).

Why is my brand not ranked?

Either the engines do not yet connect your brand with that category, or the sources they read (comparison articles, review sites, forums, your own pages) do not describe you clearly enough to be picked. The fix is to find which sources the engines cite for the question and earn a place in them, which is the work Honeyb's agent does once tracking starts.

How often does an AI rank change?

Often. AI answers are generated fresh each time, so positions move between runs and between days. This dataset is one measured answer per engine per question, refreshed in batches. Daily tracking across repeated runs is what turns a single position into a reliable rank.
