Price per answer is the right way to compare AI visibility APIs, but only once you know what an answer is, because the eleven vendors below sell three different things under one name. A few run your own prompt on the engines when you ask; two let you query a database of answers collected for everyone; and most open a read-only window onto a dashboard subscription. The lowest per-answer rates belong to the third kind, and hold only if you use every prompt you bought, every day.
We pulled the 11 vendors' prices from their own US pricing pages on 2 October 2026, and quote them in US dollars with the plan, the billing period and the unit as printed. Where a vendor prints no dollar price we say so, and where a per-answer figure is our own arithmetic the sum is shown next to it. Honeyb is ours; it is listed first and priced on the same terms as everyone else.
What one unit of AI answer data costs
$0.004
per ChatGPT or Gemini answer page on DataForSEO's LLM Scraper, live mode
The raw answer; finding your brand in it is your job.
$0.020
per check on an Ahrefs Basic custom prompt package, at the overage rate
One prompt on one platform; a Claude update uses eight checks.
$0.08
per answer on Honeyb's AI visibility API, on any of eight engines
Mention, position, sentiment and cited sources come back extracted.
$189
a month for Otterly Standard, its cheapest plan that lists the API
The API reads what the dashboard already tracks.
Those four figures span a factor of twenty on the unit, and the fourth adds a subscription before the unit applies at all. They are less a league table than four descriptions of different work: a raw answer page is cheap because nobody has read it yet, a check is cheap because the vendor runs it on a schedule, and a monthly plan is cheap per answer only at full use.
What does an AI visibility API actually return?
An AI visibility API (a way for software to ask whether ChatGPT and its rivals recommend a brand, without anyone opening a dashboard) can return one of three things, and the price only means something once you know which. Unlike a rank tracker, which reports where a page sits among ten links, it reports whether a brand is named inside the answer at all, and in what company.
The first is an on-demand run. You send prompts, the vendor puts them to the engines and you get the answers back, classified or raw. Honeyb's AI visibility API works this way, as do DataForSEO's LLM Scraper and LLM Responses endpoints, Rank Prompt's reports and the Custom Prompts in Ahrefs Brand Radar, which run your questions daily, weekly or monthly. This is the kind a product team needs, because its customers' prompts are not in anyone's database.
The second is a database read. SE Ranking's API sells access to AI search data built from more than 25.5 million tracked prompts, and the Ahrefs AI Visibility Index maps brands across 449 million prompts. Both are good for market research, because they show where a competitor appears on questions you would never have thought to write, but neither will put your own question to ChatGPT this afternoon.
The third is a dashboard export. Otterly, LLM Pulse, Peec, Finseo and Keyword.com all sell a tracking dashboard first and an API second, and the API returns what your tracked prompts produced. That is exactly right for a team that wants its dashboard numbers in a warehouse, and exactly wrong for a developer who wants to call an engine on demand, because the API comes with the plan and is capped by the plan's prompt count.
How do the eleven AI visibility APIs compare on price?
The table sets out what each vendor charges before and during the first call, and whether it offers an MCP server (the plug that lets an assistant such as Claude call the API on your behalf, so nobody has to write the integration). Rates marked as derived are our arithmetic on the vendor's printed figures, with the method in the paragraphs below.
| Vendor | What the API returns | Entry price for API access (US$) | Price per answer or check | Engines | MCP server |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Honeyb (ours) | Your prompts, run on demand; each answer with mention, position, sentiment and cited sources | Prepaid credits from $10, no subscription; keys on request | $0.08 per answer, every engine | 8: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, DeepSeek, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews | Not offered |
| Ahrefs Brand Radar | Your prompts on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule, plus a 449M-prompt index | Prompt packages from $50 a month for 2,500 checks; API listed on paid plans from $129 a month | $0.020 per check overage on Basic, $0.010 on Scale; Claude uses 8 checks | AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, plus Claude on custom prompts | Yes, on paid plans |
| DataForSEO | The raw answer page (LLM Scraper) or a model API's reply (LLM Responses); parsing is yours | $50 minimum payment, no subscription | $0.004 per results page live, $0.0012 queued; Responses $0.0006 per task plus the model's own price | Scraper: ChatGPT and Gemini only | Not checked |
| SE Ranking | Reads from a database of 25.5M+ tracked prompts | Wallet $50 for 250K credits; Standalone $179 a month, billed annually | 200 credits per prompt record, $0.04 at the Wallet rate (derived) | ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, AI Overviews, AI Mode | Yes, every plan |
| Rank Prompt | Your prompts run as reports; other endpoints rolling out under /v1 | Free plan with 10 credits; API Starter $99 a month for 500 prompts | $0.20 per prompt across 4 standard engines, about $0.05 per engine answer (derived) | ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Claude; Grok and Gemini 1 credit extra each | Yes, every plan |
| Otterly | Your tracked prompts, daily | Standard $189 a month, 100 prompts, 2,000 API requests | About $0.016 per answer at full daily use (derived) | ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity, Copilot; Claude, AI Mode, Gemini as add-ons | Yes, Standard and up |
| LLM Pulse | Your tracked prompts, weekly | Scale $355 a month ($296 billed annually), the vendor's approximate USD | About $0.036 per answer at full weekly use (derived) | ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews, Gemini | Yes, every plan |
| Peec AI | Your tracked prompts | API on Enterprise only, custom annual pricing | Not computable | Up to 13 models on Enterprise | Not stated |
| Semrush | API access on Advanced; public API docs list no AI visibility endpoint | $549 a month ($455.67 billed annually) | Not computable | Not listed on the pricing page | Yes (Semrush MCP) |
| Finseo | Your tracked prompts, on the Growth plan | No US-dollar price published (euros only) | Not computable | Any 3 of 10, including Grok and DeepSeek | Yes, every plan |
| Keyword.com | Your tracked prompts, on the AI Visibility plan | $9.80 a month billed annually for 20 credits | Not computable: the page does not define a credit | ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, AI Overviews, AI Mode | Listed |
Read down the fourth column and Honeyb has the highest printed rate of the vendors that print one. Read across the third and it has the lowest paid entry of the on-demand APIs, $10 against DataForSEO's $50 minimum and Ahrefs' $50 package, and it is one of two vendors in the table that name both Grok and DeepSeek. Neither column alone tells you what you will pay, which is the argument of the next section.
Why is the cheapest rate per answer often the most expensive bill?
Because the dashboard rates assume you use everything you bought. Otterly's Standard plan is $189 a month for 100 prompts on four engines tracked daily, which is 12,000 answers in a 30-day month and about $0.016 each. A developer who wants 500 answers to test a feature still pays $189, and the effective rate becomes 38 cents.
The same sum applies to LLM Pulse's Scale plan, the first tier that lists its API: 450 prompts on five models weekly is about 9,750 answers a month, so $355 works out near $0.036 per answer, provided all 450 prompts are in use. These are good prices for the job they are built for, which is a marketing team watching the same questions every day; they are a poor fit for a job that starts small and varies.
Take a first test of 50 prompts on four engines, run once: 200 answers, which on Honeyb cost $16 from a prepaid balance, so a failed experiment costs less than the meeting about it. On DataForSEO's LLM Scraper the same 50 prompts cost $0.40, but only ChatGPT and Gemini are covered, so it is 100 pages rather than 200, and the first bill is still the $50 minimum payment even though the test uses $0.40 of it.
The same test fits inside an Ahrefs $50 Basic package, though the pricing page lists the API itself on the paid plans from $129; on Otterly it is the month's $189. For a team still deciding whether AI answers matter to its product, the floor is the price that counts, and the unit rate only takes over once the volume is known.
The arithmetic changes again at scale, which is the honest caveat on our own price. At 10,000 answers a month, Honeyb's flat $0.08 comes to $800, while an Ahrefs Scale package of $250 covers 25,000 checks. A team that knows its prompt set, runs it on the same schedule every month and lives on the engines Ahrefs covers will pay less there, and should.
What does a raw answer cost after the invoice?
DataForSEO's unit is the cheapest in the table because it stops early. The Scraper returns the answer page, and the LLM Responses endpoint returns a model API's reply at $0.0006 per task plus the price the model charges. Working out whether your brand was named, where it sat in the list, how it was described and which pages the engine cited is left to you, usually with a second model call that has a price of its own.
There is a subtler gap too. A reply from a model's API is not necessarily the answer a buyer sees in the app, which may search the web before it answers, and building on the engines' own APIs means keeping up with their changes. Perplexity's changelog records that Sonar Chat Completions is now the Agent API, with a migration guide for developers, which is the sort of change a home-built tracker has to absorb whenever an engine moves.
The enriched APIs price that work in. Honeyb's answers come back with the mention, the position, the sentiment and the cited sources already extracted, and the Ahrefs Brand Radar API exposes 22 endpoints including AI responses, cited pages, cited domains and share of voice. If your team would otherwise write the parser, the difference between the two rates is what that parser would cost you, spread across every answer.
Which AI visibility API should you choose?
If you are building a product that needs your customers' own prompts on many engines, at a flat price and without a subscription, Honeyb is built for that: $0.08 per answer on eight engines from a $10 prepaid balance. The caveats are real: self-serve key signup is not live yet, so keys are issued on request; there is no free API tier and no MCP server; and the unit rate is the highest of those printed.
If your team already pays for Ahrefs, Brand Radar's custom prompts are the cheapest enriched check here, from $0.020 down to $0.010, with an MCP server and a documented API. Our look at the Semrush API's pricing reached the same verdict for suites generally: use the API of the index you already report from, because two tools that disagree generate a client email.
If you want raw ChatGPT and Gemini answers at volume and have engineers to parse them, DataForSEO's LLM Scraper at $0.004 a page is the buy, and our guide to DataForSEO alternatives sets out where its catalogue ends. If the job is research on prompts you did not write, SE Ranking's database at $0.04 a record, with 100,000 free trial credits, is the cheapest way in.
If you run an agency and want white-label reports with an API and MCP server on every plan, free included, Rank Prompt is the most generous on access, though its page says only brand management ships today and the rest of /v1 is rolling out. And if your marketing team already reports from Otterly, LLM Pulse, Peec, Finseo or Keyword.com, use that vendor's API to move the numbers you already trust; our comparison of the best AI visibility tools covers the dashboards themselves.
Semrush is the odd one out. Its pricing page lists API access on the $549 Advanced plan, but its developer documentation lists SEO, Projects and Local APIs and no AI visibility endpoint, so for AI answer data today the route in is the dashboard rather than the API.
Before you write any integration, it is worth seeing what the engines say about your brand at all. The free AI visibility checker runs one engine in the browser with no key, and the result tells you whether the problem is worth an API.
To price an integration and ask for a key, open the Honeyb API, which lists every line with its price and status; keys for the AI visibility API are issued on request there.
