The 8 Best LLM Monitoring Tools for Brand Visibility in 2026

LLM monitoring is the practice of tracking what large language models say and cite about your brand: which engines mention you, how you rank against competitors, and crucially which sources they pull from. It matters because when a buyer asks ChatGPT or Perplexity for a recommendation, the model builds its answer from a concentrated set of cited sources, and you are either inside them or you are not. This guide compares the eight best LLM monitoring tools for 2026, with a focus on citation tracking and the data depth that separates them. Honeyb, first on the list, is our own tool, so judge the rest on their merits.

    What LLM monitoring actually tracks

The whole point is the sources. Reddit alone is 40.1 per cent of all AI citations, and being cited is not the same as being named: Semrush found 62 per cent of AI citations never surface the brand behind them. A good LLM monitoring tool tracks both the mention and the citation behind it.

    Share of AI citations

    Most-cited domains in AI answers

Share of all LLM citations by domain: Reddit 40.1%, Wikipedia 26.3%, YouTube 23.5%. From a Semrush analysis of roughly 150,000 citations across 5,000 keywords, June 2025. Reddit is the single most-cited source on the web for AI answers. Source: Semrush.

And the strongest lever for changing what an LLM says is off your own site. AI visibility correlates most with third-party mentions and video, not on-page work, according to Ahrefs, so monitoring has to watch the whole web, not just your rankings.

    How we compared them

We weighted citation tracking (does it show which sources the model used), model coverage, API access for teams that want the raw data, and price relative to who each tool is built for.

    How to choose

If citation tracking is your priority, Honeyb, Profound, Semrush and Ahrefs lead. If you need the raw data via API, Profound, Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking expose it. If budget is the constraint, Otterly and Honeyb's free check are the entry points. And if you want daily all-model monitoring with citations and recommendations without enterprise pricing, that is where Honeyb fits.

The caveat that applies to all of them

LLM answers are volatile. The same query changes roughly 70 per cent of the time, and two identical queries return the same brand list under a 1-in-100 chance (SparkToro). Monitor the trend across a fixed prompt set, not a single reading.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is LLM monitoring?

LLM monitoring is tracking what large language models like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity say and cite about your brand: whether they mention you, how they rank you against competitors, and which sources they pull from. It is the AI-answer equivalent of rank tracking, but focused on synthesised answers rather than a list of links.

How is LLM monitoring different from traditional rank tracking?

Rank tracking watches your position in a list of links. LLM monitoring watches whether you are named inside a generated answer and which sources the model cited to build it. The levers are different too: LLM presence depends more on third-party mentions and community discussion than on your own on-page rankings.

    Does LLM monitoring track citations?

The best tools do. Citation tracking shows which websites a model used to build its answer, which is more actionable than a bare mention because it tells you where to earn presence. In this list, Honeyb, Profound, Semrush and Ahrefs offer citation tracking; some cheaper tools track mentions only.

Do I need API access for LLM monitoring?

Only if you want to pull the raw data into your own dashboards or workflows. Most brands do not, and can work from the tool's own interface. If you do, Profound, Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking expose an API.

How much do LLM monitoring tools cost?

From about $29 a month for entry tools like Otterly to $399 and up for enterprise platforms like Profound, with mid-market options such as Peec AI around $89 to $199. Some, including Honeyb, let you start with a free visibility check.

My name is Matiss Katanenko and I co-founded Honeyb, the AI visibility platform that tracks how ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and the other major AI engines talk about brands. I'm based in Riga, Latvia. Before Honeyb I spent years on the agency side running SEO and content programs for fast-growing brands across the US and Europe. That work is where I watched AI search start to compress the entire discovery channel into a four-brand short list, and decided to build the tool I wished agencies had. In my free time I'm in the sauna, on a padel court, or behind a drum kit.
